What’s Your Training Looks Like

Marine Ecology & Coral Reef Penida

The Marine Ecology Nusa Penida course is your gateway to a world of underwater exploration. Spread over 3.5 days, the course includes six stimulating open-water dives.

On Day 1, a theoretical classroom session helps you discover coral anatomy, biology, and their vital role in photosynthesis. Moreover, we explore more marine organisms like coral reef algae, sponges, and seagrass, teaching you how to identify different fish and invertebrates.

Moving on to Day 2, we bring Marine Ecology to the forefront. The day commences with two ocean dives, giving you hands-on experience in identifying fish, substrates, and invertebrates. Following our return, we continue the learning journey in the classroom with another enlightening lesson on Marine Ecology.

The day starts with two more dives, sharpening our skills in identifying substrates, fish, and invertebrates. Back at the dive centre: we cruise into the global distribution of corals, the impact of coral bleaching, and its effects on reef health. Importantly, we shed light on the Coral Triangle, underlining its significance and the threats it faces.

Lastly, on the final day, our focus shifts to ocean pollution and conservation efforts. We tackle topics like overfishing, ocean pollution, and the plastic crisis. We highlight the human impacts on the marine environment and discuss our role in addressing them.

The final two dives of the course will involve identifying substrate, fish, and invertebrates, along with conducting a reef survey using a transect line.

Our day wraps up with a practical beach clean-up session, followed by data collection on the types of debris gathered. This practical exercise offers valuable insights into our human footprint and lays out actionable steps for reducing it.

In essence, the Marine Ecology Nusa Penida course is not just informative but also action-oriented. It’s skillfully designed to give you a deep understanding of the marine world while empowering you to play an active role in protecting it.
