The PADI Open Water Penida Course is broken up into 3 separate parts:

  • Confined Water  –  This will involve in-water pool training where you will learn and practice the various scuba diving skills.

Legend Diving Penida is passionate about the environment and as a result, we have gone totally paperless. That’s right, zero paper! COURSE SCHEDULE

3.5 days is all that you need in order to complete the PADI Open Water Penida Course. If you are short on time and need to get it done quicker, then that is a possibility. In that case, you can complete the course in 3 days. However, we recommend the 3.5 day option so that it doesn’t feel too rushed.

Day 1

On arrival at Legend Diving Penida, we will greet you with a hot cup of coffee and a smile. Your PADI instructor will then show you to our air-conditioned classrooms, where you will start the online theory. At this moment, we will supply you with one of our tablets to complete the work digitally. If you have your own device with you, then feel free to complete the theory from anywhere that suits you. Sun loungers are a good option. The theory includes 5 knowledge development videos followed by related questionnaires. For the most part, the theory is self-study, however, your Instructor will always be close by to answer questions. Once you have ticked the boxes and completed the knowledge development sections, your instructor will review them all with you. This is the perfect time to share any concerns or questions you may have.

Day 2

Today is where we will put the theory into practice with your first confined water session. Before entering the pool, your instructor will introduce you to the equipment that you will be using. First, an explanation of the equipment will be given and followed by assembly techniques. Once the equipment is assembled, a dry run of how it all works together will be demonstrated and practiced. After you have a clear understanding, we will then head to the pool for skills practice.

Upon entering the pool, your instructor will demonstrate the course skills and watch as you copy and practice them. The skills range from; entry + exit techniques, clearing a flooded mask, buoyancy control, and of course, safety procedures. These skills, plus the extras, will certainly prepare you for the open water, ocean sessions.

At the conclusion of the confined water session, we will then continue with any remaining theory.

Day 3

Finally, the moment you have been waiting for has arrived, its open water time! Before heading out for the day, your instructor will provide a dive briefing to you. The briefing includes; dive site conditions, marine life at these sites, and of course, skills that need to be completed. We will complete 2 open water dives on day 3 with each dive having particular performance requirements to be met. The maximum depth for each dive is 12 meters and we will conduct them at locations suitable to your level.
Once the open water session is over for the day, we will then head back to Legend Diving Penida. At this time, you will have the opportunity to conclude any theory or continue with unfinished confined water sessions.

Day 3,5

We have reached the ultimate day of your Open Water Course, and it is almost time to celebrate. Again, your instructor will provide a briefing of the day and the performance requirements that need to be met. The maximum depth limit will be 18 meters and we will focus on completing and fine-tuning the remaining skills. With this in mind, there will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy the underwater world, together with the marine life. The chances of visiting the Manta Rays of Nusa Penida is high, making it a great conclusion to the course.

After resurfacing from our final dive, we will head back to the dive center. Here, your instructor will complete the certification paperwork and shake your hand for a job well done. Important to remember that for any continuing education with us, you will immediately receive a 10% discount.

PADI OPEN WATER PENIDA FAQ

Scuba diving is a possibility in most places with a body of water that is deep enough to enjoy. This may include swimming pools, Lakes, the ocean, and even quarries. The ability to dive at certain locations will also depend on your certification level and experience.

In short, no. The pain that you are experiencing is caused by the surrounding water pressure on your ears. With the right training, you will learn how to conquer this pain and therefore it will become a non-issue. If you can fly, you can diev!

If you have any health concerns or would additionally like a check-up before diving, we recommend visiting your GP. They will be able to provide a fit to dive assessment for you. Having said this, visit the Divers Alert Network website for more information.

Most definitely! A PADI Professional Instructor will spend as much time in the pool with you, as you need. We will only enter the ocean when you are ready.

The most common issues are seasickness, dehydration, and sunburn. These are all very easily preventable. Furthermore, scrapes and stings may occur. However, your wetsuit can help prevent this. Scuba diving is generally a very safe adventure sport.

If you see a shark, consider yourself lucky! They are a rare sight to see. Don’t worry, they are generally oblivious to us divers and are not aggressive. We are not on their menu.

If you are pregnant, it is not advisable to scuba dive. Diving while menstruating is generally not a concern.

The maximum depth limit for recreational scuba diving is 40 meters/130 feet.  However, as an Open Water Diver, our maximum depth will be 18metres/60 feet.

This will not happen! Our scuba equipment is fitted with air gauges that indicate how much air is remaining in your tank. During your course, you will be taught how to read the air gauge and supply that information to your instructor. We will never end our dives below the safe limit. However, in the unlikely event of an out of air emergency, you will share air with your dive buddy. This skill will also be taught to you during your course.

We will try to eliminate this feeling by spending plenty of time practicing in the pool. Your instructor will not rush you and will ensure you are comfortable and ready before we head to the ocean.

Certifications from other organizations can be used towards specific PADI certification. Our team will assess your certification and advise how you are able to convert into a PADI diver. It is possible to be Open Water certified with one organization, and Advanced Open Water certified with PADI, for example.

PADI OPEN WATER REFERRAL AND UPGRADE

PADI OPEN WATER PENIDA REFERRAL

An Open Water referral allows you to complete your course in a different location if unable to finish with us. Additionally, you can also complete your course with us if you started in a different location and didn’t finish there. For example, If you started somewhere else but couldn’t finish, your previous instructor will write a referral for you. Thereafter, on arrival at Legend Diving, you will present the referral and our instructors will complete the course with you. Depending on how much you have already done, will determine how much time it will take to complete. It is possible that it could take as little as 2 days and therefore allow you extra time, fun diving. We also have a wide variety of courses available that you could sign up for, too.

PADI OPEN WATER PENIDA REFERRAL FAQ

The referral is valid for 1 year from when the form was dated. It is, however, recommended to complete the course ASAP so that your skills are fresh in your mind.

Not a problem! Your original instructor will complete a referral form for you, including the parts of the course you have completed. This form can then be used to complete your course anywhere in the world.

The  PADI eLearning program is unique as it allows you to complete the knowledge development online. This feature can be applied to both a referral or a full Open Water Course.

For sure!! One of our instructors will assess your level in our onsite pool before heading to the ocean. They will help you to review your skills and practice as much as you need. SHaring your concerns or questions is advised.

Having a referral will allow for as much time as you need to complete the full Open Water Course. Some take longer than others, and we can also be presented with situations out of our control. The referral helps you to feel less rushed and less pressured to complete the course in a hurry. It is meant for enjoyment, and thus, it will be enjoyed!

The main disadvantage would be to leave too much time in between starting and finishing the course. By leaving long periods of time, you may forget some of the skills, resulting in having to start again. Additionally, It is also nice to finish where you started as you will have a good relationship with the instructors.

We recommend contacting us before you arrive at Legend Diving Penida. It is also advisable to obtain a medical clearance from you GP, beforehand.

PADI SCUBA DIVER UPGRADE

If you already certified as a PADI Scuba Diver, you can then upgrade and become an Open Water Diver. In order to upgrade your certification, you will need to complete a few minor tasks. These specific tasks include knowledge development, 2 confined water training dives, 2 open water training dives, and a final exam. The upgrade will take as little as 1.5 days to complete, and your course structure will look like this:

Day 1

The upgrade will start with the theory portion of the course. Therefore, you will watch a few videos and complete the knowledge development assessments. We usually do the theory through self-study, but your instructor will always be close by to help. If you would prefer doing the theory online, your instructor will help you create a PADI account to do so.

Once the theory has finished, we will head to the pool and complete the 2 confined water sessions. Here, your instructor will demonstrate the new skills for you so that you can copy and practice them.

Day 2

Today will be the final day of the upgrade. We will head out to the ocean in order to complete 2 open water dives. Each dive will have specific performance requirements. Once the skills portion is over, you will then have time to enjoy the marine life. The chances of visiting the majestic Manta Rays are high and will make for an extraordinary end to your course. Upon resurfacing you are now a fully-fledged Open Water Diver, thus allowing you to enjoy deeper water, globally. If you are spending additional time on the Island and wish to continue diving, we will offer a 10% discount.

” My Open Water Course at Legend diving Penida is one that I will certainly not forget. I was able to come face to face with what felt like hundreds of Manta Rays. Fortunately, the conditions were perfect, thus allowing us to visit Manta Point on both days. Furthermore, my instructor was great! He went above and beyond my expectations and therefore made my experience even better. The skills I was taught made me feel safe and as a result, more equipped for any diving adventures. With this in mind, I decided to continue my education and therefore enrolled in the Advanced Open Water Course. I can’t thank the team enough for the life-changing experience that they gave to me.”
