Once both knowledge development and practical portions are completed, you will then take the Instructor exam. On completion of the exam, you can finally celebrate your elite status.
The daily schedule of an IDC candidate will generally be split into two portions. Notably, you will spend the first half in the classroom working on knowledge development. We will conduct the second half in the pool working on your practical development. On top of the PADI requirements, we will include additional training that will simulate real-life situations. Candidates that exercise potential real-life situations will certainly become the best that they can be.
IDC Outline
The focus of your IDC learning will follow a variety of theory and practical assessments. It will cover a 15 – 16-day period and will include 2 extra days at the beginning of your course. During these 2 days, you can refresh your theory and get to know your course director and classmates. [read more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]
IDC Orientation
Before we dive into the hardcore training sessions, we will provide an orientation to clear up any questions or concerns. Additionally, we will detail what we will cover during the training, and when. The course director will also hand out practice exams that you can work on throughout the IDC.
Below are the different topics that will be covered during your training:
Learning differences, Instructor techniques, and how the PADI system works
Here, we will look at the various ways in which people learn and how they can maximize their learning experience. Over and above, we will study how PADI approaches the training of new divers.
Knowledge development presentations
Throughout your IDC you will conduct knowledge development presentations to your course director and classmates. Consequently, the topics of these sessions will vary and focus on the different PADI courses on offer. For example, you will present information about the OWC, AOWC, Rescue, and more. Not only will this give you confidence teaching in a classroom setting, but will also help to refresh your own knowledge. Overall, these presentations will surely make you feel more prepared and ready for the exam.
Teaching PADI specialty courses
PADI has many specialty courses on offer and as an IDC candidate, you will become familiar with most of them. Each of these specialties has different standards and teaching techniques, of which you will learn. Legend Diving Penida will also include a few unique workshops when you do your IDC with us.
Start Diving today – PADI Diver acquisition programs
PADI has adopted a DIVE TODAY philosophy and has been promoting it for a number of years already. Here, you will become aware of the different discovery dive options available to non-divers. These include the DSD, Discover snorkeling, and Skin Diver programs.
Conducting Confined Water training dives
The amount of time spent in the pool will surely provide the confidence that you need in becoming an OWSI. Moreover, during this practical portion, you will practice the different diver skills and how to recognize and fix potential problems. Consequently, this is a big part of the IDC program as it will have a prominent feature in the IE.
Conducting Open Water Training dives
In a similar fashion to the confined sessions, we will look at how to teach in the open water. Here the focus will be on how to organize student divers underwater and how to approach each individual diver situation. Notably, there are a few unique considerations and handling techniques that need to be followed.
Business of scuba diving
As a PADI instructor is it important to be familiar with how the business end of the diving industry works. Consequently, we will study how the industry has grown and determine ways in which we can promote further improvement. Times are changing and with that, the demand changes, too. The ability to notice and act on changing trends is a useful skill to have.
PADI General Standards and Procedures
PADI has created and maintained strict standards and procedures when it comes to teaching new divers. As an IDC candidate, you will study the different standards and learn how to master them. These standards are applied to both practical and theoretical sessions of training. If you are a PADI standards guru, it will surely put you a cut above the rest. Additionally, there will be a section in the IE covering the PADI standards and procedures.
Organizing and conducting different diver programs
The availability of PADI programs is endless and gives divers the opportunity to improve their skills. During this segment of your IDC, we will look at how to conduct various PADI courses. For example, you will learn how to teach the AOWC, Rescue diver, Divemaster, and specialty programs. We will put a focus on how to market and promote each of these courses to divers. Moreover, together with your classmates, you will take part in the EFRI course. It surely is a fun and entertaining program.
Legal responsibility and risk management
PADI instructors have legal responsibilities to their guests, and therefore safety is of high importance. Scuba diving comes with risk factors that we need to be prepared for and ready to handle. As an instructor, you should know the laws and regulations related to scuba diving.
Teaching the Recreational Dive Planner
Before the invention of the dive computer, divers made use of the RDP tables when going out for the day. They are an important part of diving history, and thus all divers should know how they work. Here, you will refresh your memory on the tables and learn how to teach them to others.
Marketing and diving
In conclusion, after you have mastered the above skills, we now need to apply them to student divers. Consequently, you will learn how to market each course and state why they are advantageous. In addition, the skill of knowing how each aspect of diving will apply to different people will help you attract new potential divers.

Although first aid is serious, as an EFRI, it is our duty to make the course enjoyable and relaxed. The course will involve both classroom demonstrations and self-study. Moreover, we will enact potential real-life scenarios that you will have to practice handling. In doing so, your course director will monitor your teaching style and provide tips when necessary. This will result in you being a more confident instructor to your future students. [read more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]

Sidemount diver workshop
The Sidemount diver course will instantly change your entire perspective on Scuba Diving. In other words, forget the standard setup of 1 scuba tank on your back and think differently. In fact, think sideways for a moment. So, imagine diving with not one, but 2 tanks on each side of your body. Sound futuristic and fun? Well, that’s because it truly is! Sidemount diving first began with cave divers in mind as it would be easier to enter smaller and tighter spaces. Ever since then, it has ultimately flourished amongst recreational divers. Therefore, it will be no surprise to see many more people with tanks at their side enjoying an underwater journey.

Come contribute to the health of our beautiful coral reefs! During this workshop you will learn how to identify healthy and unhealthy corals. Many factors can be the source of damaged reef, you are guaranteed to have a much better understanding of the role of corals in our ecosystem. This workshop is a must for those who are interested in conservation.
Self Reliant Diver workshop
